EPP Starflowers, Little Baskets, and Rose of Sharon

The RSC ( Rainbow Scrap Challenge ) color of the month is teal.

Working with reproduction fabrics I don’t have much ‘real ‘ teal…such as the Little Basket on the top left:

So I just worked with what I had for another basket and two EPP ( English Paper Pieced ) Starflowers that I later appliqued onto a background.

As to hand-quilting, I have made some progress off and on this week on my Rose of Sharon quilt.

Here is the area that I am working on now:

I’ll be sharing at So Scrappy for the Saturday RSC  link up and at Kathy’s Quilts for Slow Sunday Stitching.

So saddened to learn of Anthony Bourdain’s tragic death / suicide today.  I was reviewing some short clips of his shows on You Tube this morning…favorites of mine are his time spent in Iran and then his first trip to an American Waffle House :)

RSC Scrap Quilt, Blooms & Dog Sitting

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color of the month for May is pink, and my pink Canterbury Bells have been in bloom for a good 2 or more weeks now.

I managed to get 3 pink blocks for my “Blend” project pieced this week and added them on to the existing ones. I call this RSC scrap quilt “Blend” because I was looking for blocks that would blend in with each other in a graduated manner….I was asked awhile ago what the block actually is, though. It is a Jinny Beyer BlockaWeek pattern called “Peekaboo.”  There are 37 little pieces that go in to each block.

There’s that saying about April showers bringing May flowers…. how about May thunderstorms bringing the Iris in to bloom :)

When the storms rolled through it really cooled off to the point of needing a sweater in the early morning hours. I loved that break that we had for two days :)   It’s back to hot weather for Memorial Day Weekend. It was close to 90 degrees on Friday.

My middle son and DIL took off on the motorcycle for Washington D.C. and the Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom 2018. If you are unfamiliar with this you can visit a short informative article about it HERE.    They were riding with a local veteran’s group to D.C. where they’d then join up with the larger group.

They left this morning. I got the twins and Javis off of the bus and organized until her sister came for them and then I took Merle home with me. While my two dogs despise getting wet, on a hot day Merle likes nothing better than getting sprayed with the hose  and then he takes off and runs through the  yard…we call it the ‘zoomies’ :)

I told my son to buy him a new bone and a few squeaky toys to have here…he’s so thrilled with new toys and it makes life easier.

I hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend including all of the Rainbow Scrappers that routinely link up at Angela’s on Saturdays and the Slow Stitchers for Kathy’s party on Sundays. I’ll be linking up to both…now that I have these Blend blocks done and finished the Baby Quilt ( HERE ) for Kathy’s, I am still hand quilting my Rose of Sharon quilt.

I am almost finished with another Baptist Fan stencil section and ready to mark more on the quilt. I love this stencil of Barb’s and you can find hers  HERE.
