Slice of Life: Flying Dog, Early Blooms, Birthday

crabapple trees

Spring arrived early this year and despite it going away for awhile and winter conditions returning, my crabapple trees produced blooms. I checked my blog and they were blooming in early May last year ( and most years ) but by April 20 here, they were in full bloom.

LAST YEAR I showed a few pretty shots like these :

THIS YEAR instead of a peaceful dove, I am showing a crazy flying / jumping dog; my youngest son’s blue nose pit bull. Why they like to jump so much, I don’t know. I Googled it but did not find an answer, only that they do.  In one of the photos that I took it looked as if he was flying….

Basically he either tries to climb the tree or will jump trying to get a hold of the lowest branch to the point that we have to stop him, bring him in, give him some water, get him to rest awhile…and if he is let back outside he just wants to do it again.  While I couldn’t find anything on the Net to describe WHY he and other pits feel compelled to do this, I know that they are from several terrior breeds and there’s got to be a reason….I just haven’t found it yet.

But clearly he was enjoying the crabapple tree coming in to bloom! :)

Meanwhile on the next day, “little” Merle, my other son’s pup, lost his ability to “be fruitful and multiply” at the vet’s. My DIL sent me a photo and then I had to go down there and join her in laughing at him clunking around banging his cone off of things. I know it sounds mean, and we did feel sorry for him but it was just hysterical. Poor Merle.

The twins are turning six. The granddad and I went together on two scooters and pads. The girls have bikes that they’ve just mastered riding without training wheels and new pink helmets were coming from their parents so they are set now between bikes and scooters to terrorize the ‘hood here! :)

Their party is Sunday but we gave them the scooters, etc. on Friday afternoon. While my son was getting a shower after work, I got a group photo on their new steps.

I caught a few shots of Brent and Merle playing.

Finally it was time for the girls to open their scooters and gear.

There will be a big family & friends party on Sunday with many more gifts but by giving this set early they could enjoy this on Saturday. Friday evening was to have some storms move through but clear weather is expected for the weekend.

Uh-oh…Mama’s stealing a scooter with a little help from Brent!

Here’s wishing you all a wonderful weekend :)

*NOTE : for timely updates I would suggest signing up / following via bloglovin’. ( at the top of my right side bar ) because the feed is picked up within the hour there whereas sometimes I will notice that a blogroll has yet to pick it up 24 hours later, if at all.  That occurs sporadically, though not all of the time.  At any rate, bloglovin‘ picks it up right away and consistently, and I believe that it is the same way with Feedly :)

Snow & Slice of Life

Blue early morning snow Feb 9

The original forecast for the beginning of the week was not terribly alarming…three inches of snow one evening and three inches the next day.

In the end we only had about two inches of snow.

My youngest son stopped by to enjoy some homemade chicken noodle soup, salad and cornbread. He took a quick run to a local Dollar Store and Koopa, his young blue nose pit, kept watch for him.

He’s so muscular ! It’s hard to believe that he was once this little pup, but even then the muscles were just rippling :

He’s still mostly puppy in exuberance and behavior,  but grown up a bit now to a handsome young dog. He cuddled up with me for awhile and I snuck off for the camera  while he was in a lovey-dovey mood.

I have a Pee Gee Hygrandea and in the late fall, I clip some branches and store them in the cellar to dry. I bring them up around this time each year when the ‘drearies’ hit mid-winter.  I have a few figurines here that  celebrate Valentine’s Day each year around this time :)

The forecast for the next five or so days indicates that we’ll have snow “showers” each day and are moving into some bitter temperatures for days on end. The snow that we have now will be staying on the ground and added to for awhile.
