Slow Stitching this weekend; end of February

  • My car broke down awhile ago, and the Subaru garage said it was due to a mouse eating the engine wiring harness. ( if you are a regular reader, you know all about this. )  They had to replace much more than that in the end, but I thought it was over.
  • Then about 2 weeks ago it broke down for my son. He had it towed. A few days later after much miscommunication on their end they said it was running fine….they could not find anything wrong with it.
  • I assumed that the tech guy had tightened something that he’d missed and they did not want to admit to that. I didn’t care. It started up in the bitter cold, was running fine when I took it out….I thought that the Saga Was Over.
  • Then on Friday afternoon, out of the blue it started the same-old thing. Shuddering, shaking back and forth and stalling. I managed to get it off the road and had to wait 2 1/2 hours in the cold for a tow truck to finally arrive.  ( AAA kept telling me it would be just a few more minutes, then I’d call a half-hour later and get the same story. )

I have a 2010 Subaru Legacy that ran like a dream until all of this began. Now I don’t know if Subaru will finally figure this out or not :(

I have to work at the Vintage Secrets antique mall on Sunday ( we work as part of our rent-deal there )  & will either be getting a car to rent or have to get a ride…I WILL take some quilting there, since snow is in the forecast, on top of another round of sub-zero temperatures, and I doubt that it will be very busy.

I am about 1/2 way through with the hand-quilting that I’d decided to do on the inside portion of this baby quilt: Nothing fancy…the perimeter is machine quilted and the hand-quilting is just following some wavy lines drawn with a saucer. I will finish up the borders with machine quilting.

Then, even if the Mouse and Car Universe has it in for me now, surely SOMEBUNNY loves me ? :)

After I finish appliqueing this bunny, I am going to embroider Somebunny Loves You around the top. I’ve taken to making a mug / candle mat for the new DIL around each holiday thus far this year so I thought this would be cute for Easter.

Whether or not SPRING will arrive seems up in the air at the moment but Easter will for sure :)

I’m always in awe of you hand work! The quilt is lovely, and the mat is so cute. (I love bunnies.) Hopefully, the car is now on the mend and will be fixed – what a pain!

  4. Lorrie says:

Hope the car issues are resolved soon. Great to take handwork along in case things are not busy at the market.

Cars can be so aggravating! I have a 2008 Honda Civic. I bought it a year ago. About 6 – 8 months ago, I took it in for an oil change and learned that the block was broken and I had to have a new one. Luckily, it was still on warranty so it cost me nothing but when I bought the car it only had 27,000 miles on it and looked like new. They said “some” of that model had these “defective” blocks and had to have new ones when they failed and we learned which ones had the “defective” blocks. So now I have very few miles on this new motor.

I’m sorry that your car problems are spoiling the fun you should be having. What a pain.
Your bunny is going to be such a cute surprise for Tallica!
Your antique mall looks like it’s set up so people will feel right at home inside. What better decorative accent than a friendly lady stitching away peacefully while they browse? Have fun!

What a week you have had! Hopefully your car will be fixed once and for all. We too are getting a massive snow storm on Sunday, so drive carefully. Maybe they will close due to the weather? Love your quilts. Hugs, Nana

oh Doreen I hope there is very little snow and LOTS of customers tomorrow :) Having rented a car for the weekend I’d not want it to go to waste! :)

  8. Here’s hoping the car saga has a happy ending. :-)

  9. audrey says:

Well at least hand work can be relaxing.:) Too bad about your car troubles. I HATE having problems with my vehicle especially when they are not easily diagnosed.

  10. Kim says:

What a fun place to work, Deb. I think that I would spend more money there shopping than I would make from sales! I hope your car gets fixed soon…what a pain.

  11. Somebunny on this ends loves you too. I’ve spending the weekend knitting bunnies of all sizes. Hope you car problems get fixed right soon!

  12. Grandma Kc says:

I love the little bunny and I can’t wait to see what the mug mat looks like when it is done. As for your car — I was so hoping you didn’t spend those 2 1/2 hours waiting in the cold.

  13. That quilt is so lovely! And the cute bunny! Your work is beautiful. I’ve long wanted to try quilting but am still a little daunted, it looks so complicated.
Hope the car trouble has been sorted – they are only fun when they work.

  14. tubakk says:

Problems with the car is always annoying. But I think your sweet bunny will support you. Good luck.

  15. Deb says:

Oh no! That is not old enough of a car to be having issues. I hope it can get resolved quickly. Enjoy hand stitching today while you are at the booth – hopefully it will generate some great sales for you.

  16. Carla says:

So sorry your car saga is not over! There is nothing more aggravating. Hope it ends soons! Love your little bunny project that you have started!

  17. Gail says:

Don’t you just hate it when something goes wrong with tge car???!!!!
I hope everything has been sorted out now!

  18. Deanna says:

Not having a dependable vehicle….not a good feeling. Hope things work out. I love that you machine and hand quilt on one quilt. I do this often and enjoy it although I have been singled out at our local town fair…apparently the judges don’t like it. They say it should be one way or the other!! hmmm

    Love the bunny mug rug!!

  19. Debbie H says:

Oh what a cute little bunny. What a great idea for your DIL. I pray your car problem is resolved. I have had 3 cars that they could never figure out what was wrong and of course didn’t act up for them. After many $s I gave up and traded them.

  20. Lisa says:

Good luck with the car and enjoy your hand quilting.

  21. Candle mats for the different holidays is a cute idea.

  22. Oh my… vehicles are such a problem sometimes. Thankfully we have stitching to keep us sane!

  23. Stephie says:

I really think that bunny should be a mouse Deb!!! Beautiful hand quilting – hopefully it helps some of the stress fall away. Keep warm :)
