Joy in Gardening : Sunflowers

I find so much joy in gardening.  Where else can you find so much beauty and pleasure, that lasts for weeks on end, from a seed packet and a bit of potting soil. You start your seeds, get them going, transplant them …and then here is the result ( and this is just the beginning…several sunflowers in other locations have not even started to bloom yet. )

Spectacular! Those are some really happy bees in that first picture! Look at all the pollen dust on the petals — probably from the bees! You and the grands will have lots of fun with those sunflower heads, too!

  2. Joyce says:

Stunning pictures! And very true about gardening being a frugal pursuit that repays in a generous amount of beauty. In fact some might not even need to pay for seed! I remember my two grandmothers visiting each other’s gardens and coming home with handfuls of clippings. The water to root them was free – an even more frugal product!

These pics of your sunflowers are so pretty! When I start to see them at this time of year, I’m always sorry I didn’t plant any in the spring! it looks like you have a lot of cute plants on your porch, too!
