Goldfinches

I am not very lucky in getting good pictures of the birds that frequent my yard but on this occasion they stayed still for me : )

This little pair of goldfinches had been chirping away, sitting on a telephone or electrical wire outside my front porch. I went outside standing at the edge of the steps thinking that the minute I went for my camera they would fly away. One did fly…right down to the porch, to my feet, continuing to chirp for awhile. I was amazed. Then they both flew off to the side of the house but I could still hear them. Hoping that they’d landed on the sunflowers, I went for my camera and captured some nice shots of the little beauties.

Oh, what a delightful post! The little birds are so sweet and I love the pretty sunflowers you. You are quite the photographer – your snaps are just gorgeous. Thank you for popping in to see my Tildas.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  2. Debbie says:

    absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous pictures.

  3. Grandma Kc says:

Those pictures are just spectacular! We don’t have gold finch either…. so I really appreciate your pictures. I DID see a squirrel yesterday and it was only 7 blocks from our house so maybe next year…. they have made a huge resurgence on the other side of town so my fingers are crossed. Until then, I have you and your camera!

These are amazing! My favorite is the 3rd from the bottom. That little one seems to be saying, “Stay away! We found these first! And I already thanked the nice lady who grew them for us!”
We were at a wedding this weekend and table favors were little heart shaped seed ornaments. I hung ours outside and almost caught a chickadee nibbling. Of course, by the time I put batteries in my camera, turned it on, and opened the door, he was long gone – probably laughing at me from somewhere high up!

  5. Oh, that little juvenile is a doll! He must not be afraid of humans yet. Fun and sweet photos. :)

  6. Pat says:

They are the cutest little birds. I love watching the youngsters at this time of year. You got some lovely shots on the sunflowers.

  7. How wonderful to combine the goldfinches with the sunflowers! Generally, I feed finches year-round, but there’s a period in late summer when they find their food elsewhere. It won’t be long before they’re back at the sunflower seed feeders hanging in our tree.

  8. they are the sweetest things! And you were so lucky to get them. I love the one where one has his wings stretched straight out. Do they overwinter there? They do here. Lovely shots and good job!

    • debralynnpugh says:

I do not know if they do…I do not think so..I just see them in the summertime though they show no signs of wanting to leave just yet! :)

  9. Leslie says:

Oh, these pictures made me smile. Great pictures of your beautiful flowers and goldfinches. I’m lucky to have goldfinches here, and I put out thistle seed socks for them. This was my first visit to your blog, and I’ll be back.

    • debralynnpugh says:

Leslie, thank you! I have put out those socks but I hang them clear across the backyard and when I stalk the finches with my camera they fly away laughing at me! :) The sunflowers are the only reason I finally got some decent pictures after trying to all summer so I’ll be planting more next year that is for sure! :)

No match for your beautiful sunflowers though, and the photos really capture! Thank you for sharing.I must keep the camera handy!

    • debralynnpugh says:

Thank you Bonnie ! I was never able to get any good captures of them at the sock feeder….tried all summer. Now that the sunflowers are in bloom, though…they stay put a little longer! :)

    • debralynnpugh says:

Bonnie it took many a try to catch them staying still long enough to get some good pictures. LOL I probably have 100 bad ones over the summer if not more :)
