Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017

2016 was a year of joining several sew-a-longs, participating in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, and starting several projects on my own. Towards the end of 2016 I said that I did not want to work on anything new in 2017.

I was having an inner debate at the beginning of January in regards to the RSC17. I did not want to start anything new, and I did not want to make anything new that was bright.

Last year I worked on these two RSC16 projects and one of them still requires a piano key border and the other I am undecided about thus far, so it didn’t make sense to me to start another new, rainbow-y, brightly colored project.

This year I want to focus on finishing some things, and revisiting others.

Yet, I’ve gotten used to joining in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge fun at Angelas’ and I didn’t want to miss out.

I took a look at my UFO list and decided that I could easily follow the color-of-the-month suggestion on a few of the projects on the list. Yay…so Angela’s new button was added to my sidebar and I’m in again this year :)

I will follow the color of the month suggestion for further Little Baskets as well as for more appliqued Airship Propeller Blocks. I also included this applique border in the mix, because I have to start prepping for another one ( my Flower Basket Medallion project ) .

When I cut out the little baskets ( starch, iron and freezer paper prep ) there are small scraps that are perfect for berries,  and given that this Flower Basket project includes leaves of many colors I can prep a few purple leaves this month as well as the berries.

I have worked on some prep this week and have a bit more to do before I settle down to beginning my applique.

Lots of purples for Angelas’ RSC, and lots of hand work for Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching )

2017 Finish-A-Long 1st Quarter

I was visiting Bernie over at Needle and Foot, and she had posted about a Finish-A-Long that she was joining.

My projects are generally very long term….lots of hand work….but this party is a quarterly one and I actually have a few that might be finished by the end of March so I decided to join in the fun and the chance to win prizes :)

Here are 4 projects :

  • Stars & Spools is being hand quilted and I hope to finish handquilting the final border by the end of January and then machine quilt the thin outer border and bind it in February. This is comprised of a center star ( Jinny Beyer template ) and six inch spools, EPP hexies and stars and various applique elements…I just made it up as I went along.
  • Gradient Quilt is an RSC16 project / sort of an ‘improv’ thing..I am in process of tying it / it will be for my youngest son, who likes the Grateful Dead, hence the Skulls and Roses on the Backing
  • Whimsy Table Runner is another make-it-up-as-I-went-along project and needs to be machine quilted in some simple manner.
  • Scrappy Granny will not be completed by the end of March but it is the next quilt to be hand quilted and hopefully I’ll show some progress by the end of the quarter on that. I have added another border to Scrappy Granny since that photo was taken a few months ago.

This event is a global one, with many hostesses. I’ll link up with Bernie’s suggested link  at Rhonda’s Ramblings :)
