Blooms & Little Baskets

I saw a funny meme on Facebook today with Forrest Gump showing astonishment.  The text said ” The snow melted and then it was 80 degrees.!”

We went from cold weather to   77 degrees then on to two 85 degree days here in Southwestern PA.

Those two days felt like July, and were hard to adjust to. Rain is moving in and we’ll have a cool off and more spring-like temperatures.

My crab apple tree has bloomed and my youngest son’s dog is jumping at an 8 foot high branch that he reached last fall and we had to saw off…

Pit Bulls just love to jump!

The pink blooms have turned over to white and when a breeze kicks up it begins to ‘snow’ blossoms all over the yard :)

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color of the month is rose or pink. I appliqued two gold baskets for April’s color and moved on to some pink little baskets for May. Hand quilting on my Rose of Sharon certainly fits in with the pink / rose theme for the month as well :)

See what other Rainbow Scrappers are up to at So Scrappy on Saturdays and join us Slow Stitchers at Kathy’s Quilts on Sundays.

I had heard how hot it got for PA all of a sudden and thought from winter to summer! in a couple days we start a string of 80’s/60’s summer here too

I saw that Forrest Gump thing you mentioned and quite well understood it. Maybe you are on your way to good weather.
I like those basket blocks. I used to have some of the pink fabric you used for the one in the bottom left corner.

  3. The hand quilting is looking super lovely, well done. Forrest would be bored here – it’s been hot hot hot all week.

Your tree reminds me of mother’s majestic magnolia. The ground below would be carpeted in blossoms and standing beneath the wide branches felt like being in some other exotic world!

I bet that crab apple tree smells wonderful! My lilac bush outside the kitchen window is just starting to bud out–I can’t wait for the blooms!

  6. Hot, hot, hot. It has cooled down to more normal temps which is greatly appreciated. I haven’t done any quilting in so long I can’t remember. :-)

Yeah, we had snow on Sunday, then it shot up to 80 on Tuesday. Surprise!
You’ve got some beautiful rosy applique going on there!

  8. We have been doing the ‘oscillating between winter and summer’ type of spring here in Kansas, too.

Your Baptist Fan quilting is coming along marvelously.

Your tree looks so pretty in bloom!
Your basket blocks are beauties and your hand quilting looks fabulous, you are making wonderful progress on this quilt!

  10. Jane says:

Hopefully we are all moving on to more predictable and normal weather!

    Wow…that dog can jump!!

It got warm here suddenly as well! Your projects always inspire! Lovely flowers on the tree–that is the kind of snow I don’t mind!

  12. Kim says:

Same here…snow on Sunday and by Tuesday it was 94! So silly!

  13. Kyle says:

The flowering trees have been extra pretty this year. Usually we get a snow and the petal all fall off or get frost bite.

  14. Hi, ditto here in Ontario. We skipped spring and have moved on to summer it seems.
Two of my favourite things in your photo…baskets and pinkish colours. How sweet they are together. And what wonderful quilting…as always. :)

  15. We had a couple of hot days here too, how strange! One day we had a 40 degree difference from the high to the low temps. I’m surprised my seedlings are still doing ok on the deck!
