Back to School

Two years ago I had a fun idea and arranged this photo shoot with my middle son, DIL and her three kids. It is still a Facebook classic, lol. They have so many friends between the two of them that they re-run it every year for laughs :) And we did win a local newspaper contest with it, though it didn’t make any of us rich :)

I have five grands, and the other two are in a different school district. THEIR back to school date has been pushed back to Sept. 4th, due to renovations at the high school.

Today the DIL captured that with her three looking sad in the middle and the other two that were still ‘free’ on the right and left of them.

So I saw three of them off on the bus and the other two and I walked dogs for awhile. It was a fine crisp and chilly morning too! I woke up at 5:30 to 55 degrees! What a nice break. That’s my kind of weather.

My youngest son is doing well ( thank you for all of the support ) getting back to work, staying clean, visiting his dog here and taking him for walks, looking for a new job and said that he’s laughed and cried more in the last few weeks than in years…..letting his true emotions through and being comfortable and even happy with them!  I think he may be staying on the recovery road. He’s attending N/A meetings when he can/ has a sponsor, etc.

Life’s not without its constant pushbacks though. His car broke down today and he thinks it is the transmission and with a new job starting on Monday he was in despair.  A friend can loan him an old car if he can buy a battery for it…everyone is pulling together :)

That’s it for now / just a quick blog update. I wish I had more time to visit around but I’ll catch up eventually :) Please have patience with me :)

The back to school pictures are great! I’m happy your son is staying on the road to recovery. Set-backs can sometimes seem overwhelming, but it sounds like you have it covered. =)

    Fun back to school pics.

What great news about your son. May he continue to do well. Laughter is good medicine, and tears release pressure and toxins of all kinds.

No matter the good days or the bad, “Families are forever!” I think I’d rather have a close, supportive one like your own than a trouble-free existence with no one in sight.
Those kids are just so darn cute, and you have so much fun with them!

  6. Oh gosh that back to school pic is hilarious, no wonder you made the papers.
Sending you all very good wishes for a happy return to school, and continued strength for your son as he begins to find happiness again.
Indeed may your next post be titled ‘Happy days’ for all of you!

  7. Cute shoots and do glad there are positive signs about your son

  8. I can only imagine the back and forth between the kids going and the kids staying. :-) Great photos. So glad your son is doing better. Years ago, a group of women who worked together was having dinner complaining about the ups and downs of life. One of the ladies had recently lost her husband to cancer. She waited for a lull in the conversation and looked at us all and said ‘remember one thing – if you can throw money at it, it’s not a real problem.’ I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought of that through the years. That transmission or battery will work out and life will be better if he can stay on his rehab path. Best to you all.

    Love the pictures

Good to hear the son is having ups and downs and is handling them, living life is not easy we all slip one way or another about something sometime.

That weather temperature is what I enjoy so much about our area of California cool crip morning warm midday and then the cool evening perfect.

Hello, where did summer go? Way too fast for me!
I love the photos, what a fun time and photo shoot.
Best wishes for you son! Happy weekend to you!

  11. I loved their photos. At Walmart the other day, grandson didn’t want to walk down the Back to School aisle. They do put it out so early.
I agree with Judy’s comment there…if it can be fixed with money then that’s not a real problem. I’m glad you are talking about this issue; who knows who else you might help with this- as you say it is a massive problem in society today and straddles all the classes. I am so wishing your son sticks to the program; it’s really down to him. Good luck to all!

This is the first year that I have no one going back to school…all college all the time! I remember that picture. Love it!

Take care of yourself and your family. Going through some things myself right now. Hard to keep up with blogging and life in general. Your grandchildren are funny.

That picture cracks me up! I used to play “The most wonderful time of the year” on the first morning my kids went to school. For some reason they didn’t think I was funny lol
