Baby Quilt Top Finished and Computer Aggravation Continues

An update to the recent post about having to get a new computer. When I went to pick it up after the data transfer, I saw my documents there. All the various folders for the last few years…..but they are gone now!  They went missing after the guy installed Office.  He’d had some troubles doing that and I have no clue what happened.

Fortunately they still have my hard drives but this means that I have to unplug everything, take the computer back in and then hook it all back up again.

And my photo editor is gone. I used Picasa and I could use it in my sleep and a good bit of time has been spent exploring the various editors out there at the moment. Some have similar features to Picasa  but lack others …for instance I tried out at least four before finding one that straightens photos. Since the laundry line ( aka known as my design wall ) sags, I’ve gotten used to simply clicking on the “Straighten” feature in Picasa.  Well when you change computers all downloaded programs from years ago, such as Picasa, are gone.

I did manage to finish up the last two sailboats on the final border of the baby quilt. It morphed in to more of a crib size or child sized lap quilt, measuring 43 x 57.

This was a spur-of-moment project and I worked on it for the last few weeks.

It is now a quilt sandwich, pin basted and ready for quilting :)  I just made it up as I went along and had fun with it.

It is such a hassle when you get a new computer especially if you are going from old versions to newer ones. I hope you find all your data

Hello, your baby quilt is pretty. Sorry about the computer problems. I found the Picasa download after searching on the internet. I do like Picasa’s edit program. Happy Monday, enjoy your day and new week!

  3. I feel your pain with old programs. DH recently bought a new computer and did the data transfer himself which helped. But my tried and true iPhoto is gone, replaced with the new Photos and it doesn’t work as well. Also, the Preview program that I used to whip through to watermark now takes several more clicks to do the same thing. Maddening. I can’t use the old ones as the new operating system won’t work with them, so I am stuck with the new ones.

I have to say that switching to Windows 10 thus far is maddening. It’s like they tried to hide everything. Something as simple as creating a new folder requires a Google search since there’s no easy to use tab to create one. I’ll muddle my way through but I miss my Windows 7 ! :)

Well, the computer issues may be a mess, but that quilt definitely is not! It’s the chirpiest thing I’ve seen online during this entire season of dark grey cold! Lucky baby! This one will be kept for a lifetime!

What a sweet little quilt–love it! I hope nothing happens to my Picasa program. I’ve read that it isn’t supported by google anymore, but I haven’t found an alternative I like either. Hope the rest of your computer stuff turns up–yikes!

What a sweet quilt! I’m still using my old (2011?) Mac…. despite it being slow since I really don’t want to deal with the transfer issues. Hope they can find and reload everything for you. Maybe have them pop it onto a drive stick for you… so you have a backup.

I do feel your computer issues although I don’t have a computer. My iPhone was having issues it would go blank then back on, Apple replaced it for a fee (mine was many years old)
I lost all my pictures and voice memos and old text messages. My address/contact list and a bunch of other things came back
It’s the pictures I had of my grandchildren that now live across the country from me that I want to cry over but I don’t because they are alive and I have my memories and a chance to take new and more pictures

Download Google photos app. Picasa no longer exists. Some but not all of my picasa files were at google photos. I was able to retrieve about 40% of my old photos this way.

  9. Nancy says:

Google owned Picasa and retired its support May 2016. Google photo app may have some of your old photos in their cloud base.

  10. Kim says:

New phones, new computers…ugh. I get it.

  11. Karen Beigh says:

The quilt size makes it very usable for several years.

  12. Robin says:

I don’t think there’s anything quite as frustrating as having computer problems. I wish there was some way to help. Your little quilt turned out so cute and I love that you made Up the pattern.

  13. Margie Miller says:

My son, who is a professional IT, says we should all have an exterior backup.

  14. Love the sail boat additions. Don’t love the computer problems. We are so dependent upon technology today. I like consistency so when I lose a program I’ve used for years, it’s a major hurdle. Good luck.

Oh Deb…I love your quilt. I love creating as I go. It’s going to well loved I’m sure. (Technology….ugh!)
