While it took them awhile, now the cardinals are frequent visitors

I hear the quiet chirp of the missus at the first light though these photos are all of her mate.

This little bungalow was so full of family and friends on numerous occasions over the holiday season between Thanksgiving and New Years that it is nice to have a space of quieter times here for awhile.

Time to take a book like this and peruse it….

Perhaps over here by Lily who is dozing in her usual place in the corner.

That is her usual afternoon spot. In the early mornings, pre-dawn, she and my other dog Jugsy can often be found sharing a rug between the dining room and living room.

There was a spectacular sunrise the other morning. Of course one of the neighbors was walking his dogs as I was outside in my pajamas on the porch taking pictures.

Back indoors, with Christmas cleared away, there is still a little red and green on the quilt rack.

On the piano, blooms from other seasons …roses, pussy willow and hydrangea….

While on one of the room dividers little crocuses grow.

In the dining room, some sewing, and of course the usual assistance from the cat.

And last but not least, there’s a box on the stairs waiting to go into my cupboard up in my bedroom..all of the 2013 bank statements and bills etc. sorted, filed and ready to put away.  A fresh start in regards to paper, aside from waiting now for everything pertaining to taxes to start arriving.

Except for those busy cardinals, it looks like everyone inside the bungalow is resting. You have a lovely space.

    Hi Debra,

I’ve noticed, on my wonderful visits here, that all things beautiful and sweet seem to gravitate toward you! You’ve got different birds constantly gathering in your yard to chirp about the latest cute cardinal on the wire, and your own precious furry friends, who don’t want to leave your side, especially if you’re nestled in that pretty corner where Lily is snoozing! I wouldn’t DARE move (or make room for anyone, for that matter!), from there, it looks so comfy and cozy! That cat of yours never fails to crack me up; what a comedian!

I haven’t had any cardinals yet. I just put my bird feeder out a week or so ago so maybe they will find it yet.

You seem to have a busy and interesting life. I enjoy reading your blog.

  8. Grandma Kc says:

But really, what fun would sewing be without Kanga’s help? Those cardinals are just so beautiful and you KNOW I appreciate you sharing them! Happy Tuesday!

  9. Stacey says:

Sleeping pets make January more fun, don’t they? The days can get so cold but watching them snuggle really helps me. You are smart to do a little sewing and to make sure and notice the sunrise. We’ve been watching the sunrise every morning too. Love it!

  10. Joyce says:

Debra, that first photo has got to be the most beautiful of ANY I have ever seen on a blog – wow. Just “wow!”
My granddaughter, Bree, sat on my lap while we read this post together. She pointed out Lily in the corner right away. “Awww,” she said, “really, really pretty dog!” And she loved the two of them together. When we scrolled to the quilts she said, “Hey! I want to see more dogs!” (Sorry – not a quilting fan apparently!) Lucky for me, we ended up with Kanga, however Bree’s comment was, “Kitty should not be playing with scissors!”
Thanks for the help with babysitting! We’ll be back! I think she’ll love your squirrels too!

  11. Love the pets, birds, space and your blog. You are an inspiration to us all!

Your home looks so pretty and cozy. I agree, it’s a comfort to sit in the quiet and regroup. It’s going to take a big push to get me moving though…I’m liking this stillness bit too much!!

    Love your pretty quilts!

  16. Debby Ray says:

Deb…enjoying all of your cozy photos. The cardinals are my favorite bird and have been seeing so many of them since we started feeding them again with a new bird feeder we received at Christmas. I noticed your little blue and white Dutch shoe…I have one almost identical! A lovely post!

    Blessings!

  17. Amy says:

We used to get frequent visits by cardinals, but it seems ever since the woods behind us were chopped down to build two new homes, they just don’t like the neighborhood anymore. Hey, I don’t blame them! Great photos of what looks to be a relaxing January!

  18. … I need to get out our 2013 papers to begin the daunting task of tax prep — ugh! Maybe in February. :)

Hi Beth..they are crocuses …I could not resist ! The grocery store had them in the shoe, which I can use over and over down the line for anything, for 5.99 / so…whatever I saved in coupons that day the grocery store got back, ha ha :)

Love the cardinal pictures. They would make a beautiful card. I am always drawn in by your photos of visiting wildlife. We’ve had quite a bit of snow this week. I’ve been feeding the birds just outside the French door and although I’ll have a bit if a mess to clean up when it melts the cats are loving the show. The quilts look lovely. Have a blessed week. So happy to see you this week at SYC.
