A quick Mom Update & Some Silly Kids and God Bless America

Thank you everyone for the kind words, thoughts and prayers in response to my post about my mom the other day. God must listen to bloggers because they are going to be kicking her out of the hospital and moving her to a skilled nursing care facility for awhile. She might actually have a chance to get better there since there’s no way to sleep or rest at the hospital. I took my little grandson there to visit yesterday and I was there for a good part of the day today but the lack of sleep is wearing on her. They wake you all night long checking vitals or what-have-you and I think there’s less of that at the other place.

Now as to silly kids…it’s probably because the photographer is silly? : )

My DIL wanted a photo shoot with the kids ; she wanted to get some updated pictures to have printed and framed. On a nice cloudy morning with no harsh sunlight a week or so ago, we headed up to the lot next to the local library.

Is it even remotely possible to line five children up against a tree and have them all look perfect and normal for a group picture, let alone add their mom into the mix ( who wasn’t dressed for it according to her ) ?

No.  One child’s eyes will be closed. One child will have a silly fake ‘cheese’ smile, and so on. Out of all of the attempts for a formal photo only a few were close to decent but I expected that. The best photos that I’ve taken over the years of the kids grouped together is when I try to do anything BUT a ‘formal one’. So while the DIL sent a few ‘decent formal ones’ off to be printed, here are MY favorites :)

The kids are used to this by now…having to ‘pose’ for a few pictures and then they can’t wait for me to say it’s time for monster faces, or to run around, or whatever silly thing that I tell them to do….

When I was explaining to my mom how the blogging world is also like a prayer group sometimes, she was quite overwhelmed and very touched and said to tell you all thank you and God bless.   Wishing you and yours a wonderful and safe 4th of July. In a perfect world, for this weird weather year, all of you in the West would get rained out and all of us on the other side would not! :)

I am so glad your mom is doing better! I’m sure she will do better in the care center.

  2. Mimi says:

Thank goodness your mom is doing better. You are so right about not being able to sleep in the hospital. My favorite personal experience was having a nurse wake me up in the middle of the night to give me something so I could sleep. Huh? LOL

I LOVE the picture of the kids peeking out from behind the tree!

  3. Barb says:

Debra, Your informal shots are wonderful. I love the one with them all peeking from behind the tree. I know how hard it is to get the whole family looking good at one time – someone always has their eyes closed or has a squint or a grimace. These shots show off the kids’ personalities. Glad your mother is going to recuperate in a skilled care facility. Bob’s dad (92) just broke his hip and got a replacement, but he’s been moved to a rehab.

  4. Judy says:

Oh I love the photos of the kidlets!!! I hope your Mom gets a good room mate in the nursing home. When I was in rehab for my hip, my room mate couldn’t sleep unless her TV was on all night AND, I couldn’t sleep if it was! I did ask for and get another room with a room mate that rarely spoke, let alone watch TV. Neither one was perfect, but I felt more rested with the silent room mate.

  5. Karen says:

glad your mom is improving – tell her hello from Arkansas – the pics of the kids by the big tree are so fun and looks like you got some good ones too.

  6. Dewena says:

Such good news about your mother, and sleep is so important to feel better. And it is so much more difficult to sleep as you grow older and hard to get back to sleep once you’re woken up. I hope this move helps her so much.

You are a terrific photographer! The shot of the kids around that marvelous tree trunk is a contest winner!

  7. Susan says:

I’m so glad your mom is feeling better and is being moved to another facility. You’re so right – sleep is almost impossible in the hospital and so important to a speedy recovery.
Your photos are fabulous – I love the one of them peeking out from the side of the tree.
Wishing you and yours a Happy Fourth!!

  8. Laura says:

Happy that your mom is improving. I think silly photos are the best. xo Laura

  9. Glad your Mom is doing better and being moved to a better place to recuperate.

  10. Grandma Kc says:

I just love all your out takes and all of the memory lane photos, too! It really is wonderful how we have known each other for years but never met! Hope we get that rain your sending! We had thunder on Tuesday but not one drop of moisture…. sigh

  11. Mary Burns says:

Love all your projects Deb and glad your Mom is feeling better!! My mom turns 92 in July and is still moving along, Thank God! I love all your applique projects and yes, I am praying for Sun and the rain to go away in IL. Hugs, Mary

  12. Chris K in Wisconsin says:

So glad they are releasing your mom from the hospital. Is the NH close to you, or will it be a long drive forth and back?
I am a firm believer in rest being a great healer. I think too many people make light of the need, or feel they have to apologize for resting.
And speaking of that, please take care of yourself, as well!!
The pic of the kids “in” the tree is adorable!! I’m sure they respond much better to you being the photographer than some stranger, so they look much more natural!!
Hope you are enjoying some sunshine today!

    • debralynnpugh says:

Chris thanks..it’s close by as well. It’s actually the OLD hospital in our town. My sis and I are taking turns or keeping up with who is going when and when the grands are going, etc…

  13. BillieBee says:

So happy to hear your Mom is doing better. Your kids are so cute. What fun photos.

  14. Debbie H says:

Giving thanks that your mom is better. Praying she gets some rest at the care facility and is able to return home soon.

  15. Patty says:

So glad your Mom is doing better. I loved the casual pictures of your grandchildren. When are they ever so formal, of course I have no grandchildren but that is a different story – enjoy.

  16. Melanie says:

I am so sorry to hear about your mom! I didn’t see your previous post until now. I will keep her in my prayers. Love the photos of your grandkids. I think “unposed” spontaneous pictures where kids are acting naturally are the best. Love the one of all of them behind the tree.

  17. Hallelujah Mom is feeling better! I love the Brady Bunch and the one with the kids peeking out from the tree. Happy 4th of July to the skilled Oma. :-)

  18. Benita says:

Deb, so glad your mom is being moved out of the hospital! Your family photos are adorable! I know you just love those kids so much! Have a wonderful 4th and be safe!!

  19. Joyce says:

I am not one bit surprised that your mom has responded so well to treatment – and probably because of the onslaught of heartfelt prayer you invited on her behalf. “Wherever two or more are gathered…” Our Lord never said that didn’t include the internet!
The pictures of your kiddoes are delightful! All of them! I identify with the challenge of getting a “serious” group picture. Tried it today, in fact – one with his tongue out, another half-a-head because he decided to stand up at the last sec – another one turns her head sideways when the rest all look adorable – omg – exhausted just thinking about it!

  20. Kim says:

So glad your mom is on the mend, Deb. I do believe in the power of prayer! The pics are fabulous. The one with the tree is outstanding! You should be doing this professionally.

  21. Christa says:

PERFECT PHOTOS of the kids. It’s so much more precious when each child is allowed to shine through in his/her own way. Your little guys look SOOO happy. I bet these photos will make your Mother feel very happy. I am glad she feels better. Take care of yourself too. Happy 4th to you Deb. Christa

  22. Debby Ray says:

Hi Deb! Oh my, what darling photos of these children! I missed the post about your mom but it sounds like she is doing better…awesome! I have been away for a week from the blogging world and it seems like I have missed so much! Love the July 4th pics also…have a great celebration this weekend…our is getting rained out :(

  23. Diana Studer says:

another vote for the tree with 5 kids!

  25. ladyfi says:

Glad to hear your mum is improving!

    Love love these shots!

  26. ann says:

Your DIL has a difficult decision to make. I personally like the black and white and the one with them gathered around the tree. Thanks for dropping the Garden Spot.

  27. Deb, I am so sorry about your mom I am glad she is doing better. The pictures of your family are precious! I love the pic of them peeking out from around the tree!
