A finished couch quilt

I took the last stitches on the binding of the Snowball quilt early Monday morning. Based on a Kim Diehl pattern, though not followed exactly…

Finished Snowball Quilt

Machine piecing, hand applique ( which was a skill builder as I worked around the various corners ) some embroidery on the leaves, hand-quilting in each of the snowballs, and then hand tying the borders…

A finished quilt

It was an enjoyable project to work on…hand quilting snowballs during a snowy winter :) Now, dear Mother Nature…since I am done with my snowballs could you please stop sending yours our way? :) Twenty seven degrees here on Wednesday morning with some snow on the ground and my lilac bush wrapped in blankets to hopefully save its spring blooms.

Happy Easter to all ! :)

I love that, ‘though not followed exactly!’
I’m finishing a cross stitch my late mother started in the late 90s. I’m so slow and have made such mistakes! What the heck!

  4. If we are tired of real snowballs, then the pretty applique flowers in your corners symbolizes that the real flowers will soon be here.

Oh- That turned out just great- and not following the pattern exactly makes it your own!!! I love it-you did a wonderful job! xo Diana

It really is beautiful. You did a wonderful job although knowing you — you would show us each and every mistake and not take credit for how beautiful it really is! Do wish I could send you some sunshine — then you get send me some lilacs!

  8. Beautiful work – it will look lovely on your couch, and I can also see one or two smiling little people snuggled under it. :-)

That’s beautiful – and what a great feeling to be done! However, there have been times when I finished a quilt and actually felt a little sad – we’d become good friends over so many hours together! Even using it on the couch just wasn’t the same! (Yeah, I know, I’m weird!)

a beautiful quilt! I love applique. I have only done one quilt, but I know how much work goes into them! You have a lovely heirloom there! Hope your lilacs survive!

Beautiful job! I have that book of hers. She came and talked at our guild a few years ago in Vermont. I have a kit for her bittersweet briar quilt…. I really should plan to work on that this summer. Thanks for sharing and love your finish.

I love the blue hand tied on the white border. It is so different. Very well done. Congrats on a finish

  16. Congrats on the finish. It looks great, well done!

I also love that you didn’t follow the pattern exactly. I’m trying to loosen up a bit myself in that area. The combination of snowballs and applique is quite interesting.

  18. This is brilliant. You are a very good quilter. Its nice to see other people hand quilting. I often get the sideways look from my quilting friends because I hand quilt all my quilts I can’t force through my machine. Yes it takes longer (often a very long time for me) but in the end I feel that I have made the quilt…Start to Finish! And I do enjoy the art of hand quilting, so calming, so basic.
